Welcome to this week’s news post – it pretty jam packed this week , so chill out with a nice cuppa and enjoy because we have the new trailer for Breaking Dawn and some fun stuff in the world of publishing!

If anyone is stalling in getting an ereader, I think now is the time. According to reports, ereaders have jumped to 167% with suggestions that this holiday season some will be priced around $100 or so. I think this may be the case with Amazon launching its tablet soon and may cut their black and white ereaders further.

The Guardian has announced their National Book Swap, which is an initiative where people can place books around the country in public places for others to pick up and enjoy. People can print up a sticker or collect one from this …

Instead, staggered prices of £3, £5 and £7 of selected books will take its place.

Welcome to this week’s news post and its a jammed packed with major news from Karen Marie Moning and other interesting developments in the world of publishing.

The NY Times strikes again with another article about books, YA audiences and how boys are not choosing to read as much than their girl counterparts because not enough male characters are the main protagonists in the books that they are aimed at. I find this reasoning pretty funny and insulting because when I was a teen, I had difficulties FINDING a book that had a strong female character in the genres of scifi/fantasy that was aimed at YA’s. I thank the Gods when I discovered Robin McKinley and Tamora Pierce who wrote these types of heroines but they were the exceptions but as a female I had no issues or problem reading …

Welcome to this new’s post which seems to be more eventful than last week, and the authors Forbes list as well as a tale of two covers.

However first up, this is a headsup to anyone who is still using Microsoft Lit or still have books in that format. You’d better find a way to save these books as Microsoft has sadly discontinued this format (don’t y’all love DRM?) – the app will be pulled by the end of this month and any stores still carrying this format will have to stop by the 8th of November so back up and save and if you can find a way to convert them in alternate formats.

The Forbes list of the biggest selling and richest authors lists was released this week. James Patterson hit the …

This week’s news post is a bit quiet but there aresome interesting developments concerning Agency pricing and Amazon may have found a way to sidestep Apple’s new rules on their apps.

First up, along with Anti-trust investigations about Agency pricing, a lawsuit has been filed that it was only a matter of time before one would be instigated. Law firm Hagens and Berman have filed a suit that major publishers such as Simon & Schuster, Penguin, Hachette, HarperCollins and Macmillan as well as Apple have conspired to boost up profits and to undermine Amazon as well breaking anti-trust laws. Whether this can be proven is another matter but I do think it is an interesting development.

This sorts of leads to the fact that Amazon has launched a HTML 5 Web App for their Kindle store which sides-step Apple’s …

There is a rumour that seems to be growing in steam that Apple is interesting in purchasing Barnes and Noble. Now this move would be able for them to compete properly with Amazon and will certainly make things …

Well it seems the Apple Apps closing buy or direct links to purchase books from other than those they sanction or own has come to fruition, the deadline has come and gone, without any sign for vendors being allowed to use their buy links. Apps by Amazon and Barnes and Noble and others are still able to offer their books on devices on the Apple platform but you are unable to buy directly from those apps but still be able to buy via Safari and sideload the book. I honestly hate this because the whole point is the easy access to purchase a book on a portable device on the format of your choice, I think this is just Apple trying to strong arm the competition and to force people to shop at their ibookstore which …
