Around the Bookish World: News Week-in-Review

There was a lot going on in the world of ebooks this week.   The agency pricing model for ebooks is causing some titles to be temporarily unavailable at some retailers.

Sony sent out an email this week to their Reader Store customers that starting April 1st, some titles would be unavailable and that prices on some books would be changing.

BooksonBoard put up a link on their homepage to information about the effects of the new agency pricing at their store.   Until the details get worked out, new orders of the five publishers books are not available.  The new prices will be set by the publishers and many will be higher than previously.  Also, in the US, sales tax will start to be collected on these publishers titles.

Publishers Weekly reported that Amazon is also still working out the details …

Randomly Booked: Miami and Deadtown

I grew up in Miami Beach. Every year I grew older I saw more and more how much I didn’t like living there. There was nothing to do in Miami for people under the age of 21. I didn’t have a drivers license or car so when I wanted to go to some places I had to get my parents to take me where I needed to go.

At the moment I’m on vacation in Miami and during this trip I met a new friend. She gave me a few presents which made my day because each one meant something new. One of the books this friend gave me is called Deadtown by Nancy Holzner.  I immediately after I saw it knew that I really wanted to read this book but I can’t remember why.

Geekdom of Books: Bookish Jewelery

In a frantic search to find something to blog about this week I stumbled upon something I thought all female Book Lovers would enjoy.

Jewelery with a bookish touch. I so love this idea and I found perhaps, something for all of us.

1. Really Geeky Earrings

I found these on Etsy and I totally love the idea. No, we don’t all have to wear Watchmen earrings now. That would be dumb. LOL
No, you can get any book you want in this shop. You just have to ask.

Think about the possibilities. A new pair of books for every day of the week? OMG I love these earrings.
And they only cost 25 USD.

Here is the link to the shop. Copyright for the pic and the art has Lauren Swingle.

2. Steampunk Book Necklace

Steampunk is getting more popular with every day and now Etsy is nearly overrun with Steampunk Jewelery. I think this one is a …

Randomly Booked: Quote

Since I’m traveling my post today is short today. One of the books I’m reading is extremely good and when I start reading I don’t want to stop.
Here is a quote from the book, which made me laugh. Night Play is a book about a were-wolf but not in the same sense as in Harry Potter. I fell in love with the main character who’s name is Vane (he’s a werewolf – a wolf who turns into a human).

Below is a quote from a scene where Vane had to use a credit card. (below is a picture of how I picture Vane as I’m reading the book)

“It was laughable, really, that a wolf had a human credit card. But then, this was the twenty-first century and those who didn’t blend quickly found themselves exterminated. Unlike …

Bookish Rants or Raves: From Page to Screen

How many times have we heard the phrase: “Based on…” when referring to movies or TV shows? The tradition of transforming a novel into a movie or a TV series has been going on for the longest time and it makes complete sense, doesn’t it? There are so many books out there and  tons of them just scream to be adapted to a screen, any screen.

How many time have you read a book and thought about which actor or actress would represent your favorite character better? To be honest, I don’t, ever. You might want to cast stones, but I hate movie of TV show adaptations of books I’ve read. They never match, let alone surpass whatever expectations I have for them and they always turn out to be a disappointment for me.

I have to say that I do find myself enjoying a few …
